I love a man in a beautiful jacket! To celebrate the 50th Edition of the Ermenegildo Zegna Wool Trophies, luxury Italian menswear brand Zegna staged a showstopping runway event in Sydney with 60 models flown in from Europe.

For A/W ‘13 the Zegna man is dashing indeed in super-fine Australian wool, woven as an array of subtle checks and pinstripes (one with a matching pinstripe sweater), some shot through with silk – in 50 shades of grey.

It’s all about the long, slim silhouette, balanced with the volume of a statement coat. Pants have narrowed at the ankle, and gotten higher at the waist (some accessorised with cummerbunds) and jackets, even the double-breasted variety, are longer of line than we’ve been used to – and they look fabulous for it. There’s a coat for every man here: from the sheer extravagance of a shaved mink overcoat, to bombers in wool, fur or leather, wool parkas and sleeker, single-breasted topcoats that are more suited to the Aussie climate.

The show closed with an impressive army of three-piece suited fellas in matching houdstooth checks from the “Australian Celebration Collection” – also seen on the front row, on actor Chris Hemsworth who was flown in specially.
